Designing Safer Billing Workflows
Overview
Semble is a healthcare platform that helps private clinics manage their operations, from appointments and clinical records to billing. I worked on a new billing rules experience designed to make complex pricing logic easier to configure, understand and maintain.
My Role
I joined Semble as a Senior Product Designer in January 2026. I led the design work across discovery, user interviews, interaction design, prototyping and usability testing, working closely with product, engineering and internal billing specialists.
The Challenge
Billing in private healthcare involves multiple services, providers, locations, payers and contractual rules. Small configuration mistakes can result in incorrect charges, additional administrative work and a poor patient experience.
The challenge was to make this underlying complexity manageable without removing the flexibility clinics require.
My Contribution
Research and problem definition
Conducted user interviews with clinic teams to understand existing billing workflows, pain points, edge cases and sources of error.
Interaction model
Designed how users create, combine and understand complex pricing rules.
Prototyping and usability testing
Built and tested multiple approaches through repeated usability sessions, using findings to refine the structure, language and interaction patterns.
Design delivery
Defined reusable patterns and worked closely with product and engineering through implementation.
